In order to celebrate Hong Kong returned to China for 20 years as well as our chorus group's first birthday, we organised a show in Sai Wan Ho! Apart from the usual singing and dancing, we also invited a chorus group from Shanzehn(深圳羅湖和之聲合唱團) to share our happiness.

Cantonese opera duet

We had been training hard for this occasion and in the end, it was a good evening! We appeared in a few newspapers, too!

LCSD Choral Concert, Sun Yat Sen Momorial Park

All I could remember that event was the unforgivable hot sun. We had to face the burning fireball for 4 hours. We must have done something really bad to deserve that “hell” treatment! Apart from that, the day went well. We had quite a few audiences and for whatever reason, there were many foreigners joining us too!

I had a chance to sing Qu Man Di (曲蔓地) solo and double up with my singing partner Mr. He Bin Sheng (何彬生) to sing "Awaara Hoon" (拉兹之歌).

Since last time we had an Internal Exchange Program was almost a year and a half ago.

I dreamed a dream was from the musical Les Misérables. The song was a lament, sung by the anguished Fantine, who had just been fired from her job at the factory and thrown onto the streets. She remembered the happy days and wondered what went wrong in her life. I picked this one as my solo this time.

"Awaara Hoon" (拉兹之歌 ) was an internationally popular song from the 1951 classic Hindi film, Awaara, starring Raj Kapoor. When the song first came out, it immediately struck a chord in audiences from various classes and backgrounds all over India and beyond: in China, in the Soviet Union, in the Middle East. May 2013, in one of the BBC polls, the song was rated the second-greatest Bollywood song of all time. I sang this song with my new singing partner.

The purpose of the Chinese and Overseas Chinese Federation was to unite the Chinese from all over the world and to promote the patriotic feeling. We were invited to sing a few songs and provide entertainments for the country fellow-men. It was a good day outing after all but nothing much to write home about.

Our Master Tan prepared this evening for almost half a year mostly by herself. Thanks to her! Basically, all the singers were her students. Some of us had been learning with her for 4/5 years and I have joined them since August 2016.

It was my first solo performing on a proper stage and I had a wonderful time. I had a feeling that my fear of performance in public had been cured 80%. I felt quite relaxed from my second song onwards.
